I was exposed to family violence many years ago, am I entitled to receive Services of Tsui Lam? |
Family violence often has long-term effects on the victims. Upon receiving your application, our social workers will assess your need for service according to actual circumstances before providing appropriate services or making referrals. |
If I am still living with the abuser, are the services of Tsui Lam Centre suitable for me? |
Anyone exposed to family violence should be aware of the safety of your own and children to take care of. Stay away from abusers to prevent further conflicts and violence. To formulate a plan on safe living for you and your family members, you can approach social workers from local Integrated Family Service Centres/Integrated Service Centres or Family and Child Protective Services Units. To stay in short-term accommodation and leave the abusive environment, you can reach the refuge centres for women and family crisis support centre at their 24-hour hotlines. Currently, Tsui Lam Centre accepts referrals and provides victims in varied circumstances with support service, including crisis assessment and assistance in carrying out safety plan. Persons in need may contact referral agencies for service application. |
Who from Tsui Lam Centre will provide service to victims? |
Registered social workers are responsible for case intake and follow-up in Tsui Lam Centre's "Support Programme for Victims of Family Violence". Other trained staffs and volunteers will be the support persons whose main tasks include accompanying the service users throughout the judicial process, managing daily life and providing objective information, such as assistance in police investigations, attending court hearings, applying community services and house rental. To protect personal interests and to allow our social workers to follow up cases more effectively, each delivery of service must receive prior confirmation from Tsui Lam Centre. Except home visits and home-based training, social workers and support persons are not normally expected to go to the users' accommodation. Besides, all support persons strictly comply with the principles of judicial fairness and privacy protection. They would destroy all documents containing users' personal data after each service. |
Do I need to visit Tsui Lam Centre in person to get the service? |
Facilities in Tsui Lam Centre include Interview Room, Play Room, Child Visitation Room, Resource Corner, Home Corner, and Activity Room. Service users are welcome to visit us during our opening hours. Our service is territory-wide. Having established community partnerships, we set up various service locations in different communities. |
I am planning to move from the refuge centre I am staying in. However, I need to go to work from Monday to Friday. Will the support persons from Tsui Lam Centre accompany me to find another place in weekends? |
Yes. We provide on-site support service from Monday to Sunday, 9:00am–9:00pm (including public holidays). You can make appointment as needed with our social workers. |
If I dial 999 to seek help from the police because of family violence, will the staff of Tsui Lam Centre come at once to my place or police station to keep me company? |
Tsui Lam Centre only accepts cases referred by Integrated Family Service Centres/Integrated Services Centres of the Social Welfare Department or Non-governmental Organizations, Family and Child Protective Services Units of the Social Welfare Department, or other service units of the Department that provide case service (including Medical Social Services Units and Probation Offices). It takes 5 working days for general referral procedure and 2 working days for urgent referral procedure. When you are exposed to immediate danger of violence and need assistance from the police, you should keep calm. You may rest assured that the police will provide you with appropriate support. |

The pamphlets are available at Tsui Lam Centre and can be downloaded from our website. Some of our staff are ethnic minorities who speak Cantonese or English. They will provide translation service to our service users. |
